GaitWay to the Brain

At Campfire Creek, we offer GaitWay to the Brain, a specialized program designed to enhance the effects of therapeutic riding by integrating targeted brain-building exercises within the equine therapy framework. Developed and tested in centers like ManeGait in North Texas, this approach is supported by neurological research showing that combining brain-stimulating activities with riding can significantly improve outcomes for individuals with physical, cognitive, sensory and behavioral challenges.

How it works:

Classes are 30 minutes long, delivered one-on-one immediately after the rider’s scheduled therapeutic riding lesson. During this session the clinician leads brain-building exercises tailored to the learner—such as focus tasks, sensory-motor coordination, verbal expression, and task sequencing—preparing the brain and body to get more from the horseback time.

Benefits of participation include:

  • Improved self-regulation and emotional control

  • Enhanced attention, focus and task management

  • Better verbal expression and comprehension

  • Improved performance in therapy, school and daily living

Instruction and certification:

Each session is led by a certified GaitWay to the Brain clinician, working closely with your riding instructor and volunteers to provide a coordinated, holistic experience.
